Industrial talk is one of the highlights that IEM Student Section pride ourselves on. Over the previous years, are honored we have managed to invite a huge number of speakers from a variety of career fields to give talks and insights into the future career prospects of their field. We believe that by sharing their invaluable experience on their respective disciplines, more clarity towards the engineering profession will be realized, thus better decisions can be made while evaluating future career paths.
Discovering Careers in Engineering 2020
Themed “Expanding Horizons”, Discovering Careers in Engineering was a two-week event comprising of a series of workshops and industrial talks organised through the collaboration of all the engineering societies in UNM. In Week 1, a Speed Networking session and three talks were held; whereas in Week 2, a Mock Interview session, two workshops as well as three industrial talks were held. Speakers included representatives from Top Glove, Duopharma, Liberasi, 3M, B.Braun, Cantilever, Turner, Keysight, Vitrox, Emery Oleochemicals, DF Automation, Gamuda, Kajang Rocks and Maxis.

Virtual Industrial Talk by Federal Flour Mills Berhad
The virtual industrial talk was hosted by the speaker, Ms Stella Khoo Chin Choo. Throughout the talk, she gave the audience a general outlook on the company background and about her experience while working in the flour milling industry. In addition, the roles of engineers in the industry and the internship opportunities available for the upcoming Summer break were covered as well. An intuitive Q&A session was held after the talk where the speaker engaged with the participants by answering their questions, much to the satisfaction of everyone who had attended to learn about the Flour Milling industry and its career opportunities to up and coming engineers.

Virtual Industrial Talk by Beckhoff Automation Malaysia
IEM UNM successfully invited Mr Lee Yen Hong as a speaker from Beckhoff Automation Malaysia, a branch of the multinational Beckhoff Automation, to give a talk about potential job placements and opportunities, as well as interacting with people within the industry. Mr Lee also covered the topics on helping students identify their prospective areas of interests and gave valuable professional tips as well as sharing his first-hand experience working in the industry. A subsequent Q&A session followed, during which attendees clarified any remaining doubts they had regarding their industrial training.

Introduction of the Speaker
Virtual Joint University of Nottingham Malaysia – Universitas Diponegoro Students Forum
The virtual joint forum was organised by Faculty of Science and Engineering and the IEM UNM Student Section. Ir. Dr Hii Ching Lik and Prof Mohammad Djaeni from Diponegoro University (UNDIP) moderated the forum, with panelists from both UNM and UNDIP joining in the forum. The moderators engaged with the panelists on questions related to the impact of COVID-19 on Youth Development, and Environment Sustainability Issues Affecting SEA Countries. The forum was then followed by a Q&A session, during which the panelists answered questions posed by the participants.
